Two over One Game Force (2/1 GF)

In Standard American bidding, a non-skip bid new suit response at the two level shows 10+ HCP.
Opener often has great difficulty showing very strong hands and responder's rebids after opener has shown extras are no easier. Many poor slams are bid and many good slams missed.

Two over One Game Force: An Alternative
In 2/1 GF, such bids are forcing to game requiring 12+ HCP.
The follow up bids allow for more accuracy in determining proper game and better contract

*Optional: Many agree that this one particular 2/1 auction is better used as just 10+ HCP.

My style is Slow Shows Extras.
  • Once any GameForce is in effect, players should strive to end the auction A.S.A.P. if they have nothing more than already promised.
  • If I've started a game forcing auction by responding 2 to my partner's opening of 1, and have no more than the minimum required, I try to jump to game AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
  • A minimum for me is less than a good 14 count. A good 14 count should try to bid otherwise. Ace-showing bids should be made keeping in mind the points shown with previous bids.
  • Often I'll not cuebid an Ace if the hand I hold, given my previous bids, is minimal.

If partner opens 1, I'll bid a game forcing 2 with
    KJ3 82 Q53 AQ985
and if partner responds 2, I'll show a minimum flat hand with stopper(s) in the unbid suit by jumping to 3N.

  • Add a Queen and I'd bid 2N instead of the immediate 3N, to show the better hand (which I'd later follow up with 3N because that would be pretty much the worst hand that I can have for a 2N rebid.
  • The stronger the hand, the more lower level bids allowed, keeping in mind that for every stall on the way to game, partner should expect more than already promised.
  • Sometimes the bill gets pretty high and when partner tries to cash in on my promises, doubled, I'm left with a deficit!
    A Grand 2/1GF Auction

    North
    1 2
    3 4
    5N 7
  • South rebid 3 to show 4+ clubs and a heart singleton or void.
  • With 2/1GF in effect, 2 would have shown hearts.
  • After North cuebid the A, South bid 5N, the Grand Slam Force
  • North bid 7 holding 2 of the top 3 trump honours [(Pass with 0) or (6 with 1)]
