A data entry proficient club-director can run a game and create an event's
hand records via entry.htm for web
posting and/or printing out (edit data file entry.js
using simple text editor (e.g. metapad.exe
or Notepad) then launch/refresh entry.htm
(Internet Explorer compatible only).
If an event is scheduled as "with hand records" and for some reason
"none are available", there can be a "shuffle and play start".
A practiced data entry person/director can create hand records by recording
them in entry.js , saving that file
and refreshing entry.htm .
Three of a deal's four hands are entered in entry.js
(board number equals line number, North entered first, West second and East
third, South autocompleted) quickest via the numPad and surrounding keys).
A=1, Ten=0 and from lesser honour to greater, above the numpad
numbers, left to right, are assigned: J="/" Q="*"
and K="-"
Suits for each direction are separated by periods "." directions
are separated by the plus sign "+" and "Enter"
separates each deal (new line is new deal).
EXAMPLE:
A North hand such as
A54
5
KQJ7
AQJ65 can be entered
as the suits-period-separated 154.5.-*/7.1*/65
West's
J876
AKJ876
A
T9 can be entered as /876.1-/876.1.09
and East's
T9
QT9
65432
432 can be entered as 09.*09.65432.432
Collecting into one deal those 3 hands, separated by "+"
signs:
154.5.-*/7.1*/65+/876.1-/876.1.09+09.*09.65432.432
Prefix that with addDeal("
and suffix with ") and
you end up with:
addDeal("154.5.-*/7.1*/65+/876.1-/876.1.09+09.*09.65432.432")
Alternatively using the keyboard, rather than the quicker numpad and surrounding
keys: addDeal("a54.5.kqj7.aqj65+j876.akj876.a.t9+t9.qt9.65432.432")
Those are two deal-representation-function-calls of the same deal.
Each such call need be on the line corresponding to the deal number in entry.js
When all deals have been entered in your editing entry.js
, open/relaunch entry.htm
Setting Internet Explorer pagination for entry.htm
isn't easy.
Number of hand records to print might be 1/3 x number of players
Printing costs per hand record is almost certainly higher than copying, but
a trip is saved. Fast two-sided-printer?
Perhaps the best feature of entry.htm
is the textbox at the bottom of the webpage.
The html code within that textbox is javascript free, compliant with all browsers!
It can be saved to an .html file and uploaded for online presentation of
hand records (perhaps linked to a recap sheet, perhaps cross-referenced).
Alternative to a director's fetching of boards from a by-stand, or from an
active table, or via a kibbitzing caddy,
in round one each table might be enlisted to fill out deal
diagrams , to be entered as time permits. (Already numbered deals page:
1 2 3 4)
Bridge Writer/Reporter/Web Columnist's Utility
Each deal diagram/box in entry.htm
links from such as
Deal
1 to another Internet-Explorer-compatible-only webpage/utility,
that facilitates bridge-story-writing.
If opened via links within entry.htm,
in IE, the same diagram should appear and additionally! a
bidding diagram.
The auction can be entered via the IE address bar (then hit enter, and/or
refresh) and an html formatted auction should appear.
If South isn't coincidentally declarer, a link like To
Declarer South should appear.
Clicking that link should open a new instance of handTEMPLATE.htm with deal
and auction diagrams rotated to make South declarer (newspaper bridge column
standard).
Long ago it took me 50 minutes to format a bridge story diagram and auction
in html.
Now it takes about 10.
If clubs/tournaments posted their hand records via entry.htm, it would takes
less than 1 minute to send an auction descriptive link (under 2 minutes for
html).
If clubs/tournaments posted online hand records in a suitable data format,
those interested in sharing notes could be similarly enabled...via javascript
and html.
"There was a hand
last night, ignore the auction on that page,

turned out to be the clincher!
Play went..."
